Playgrounds for schools

All of Theories playgrounds for schools are carefully designed to support the national curriculum and support learning guidelines, but remain fun to encourage imaginative play for children of all ages.

It’s as important to us as it is to you that your play space is delivered to the highest possible standards, not only in its build, but in its safety.

It goes without saying that we want to design the perfect playground for you that suits your budget, delivered on time and stands the test of time.

Learning, developing and building children through play should be natural.
Playgrounds for schools should be fun, an environment that children wish to return to time and time again.

Natural environments

Our design team loves bringing planting into your playgrounds. It adds a whole new dimensions to your outdoor play equipment – touch, smell and even taste.

Theories playgrounds are built by landscapers, not just contractors, so we’re adept at choosing planting that enhances a child’s play and learning experience.

Working with you

Working with you to build the playground that fits the needs of your target audience is our key to success. Understanding what and for whom your playground is being used, means that we can ensure the greatest balance between fun, education and development through good design, whatever age, physical development or restrictions your pupils may have.

Safe & secure

In every design project our designers work to ensure everyones safety. Playgrounds should be safe outdoor learning environments for everyone. Using the best high quality materials, leaving no screws or bolts exposed to small fingers or to snag on clothing, is what we believe should be included as standard in all of our playgrounds

Dedicated aftercare

Theories playgrounds for schools are built to last, but all playgrounds need regular checks and some TLC from time to time. Our dedicated team can carry out regular safety inspections, ensuring your playground is always safe, spotting problems or maintenance requirements early on, saving your needless worry and costs for major upgrades, repairs or replacements in the future.

Theories believe that every playground should be unique, enhancing its surroundings and environment while delivering fun and educational value as part of child development.

Theories don’t build off-the-shelf playgrounds for schools. We don’t see your play space as just a construction project. We design each and every one with the individual school’s ultimate goals firmly in our minds to build social skills and aiding learning through play.

Individuality can sometimes come at a price. We believe that our playgrounds are fairly and competitively priced, reflecting their design, construction and quality of materials, guaranteeing many years of continued heavy use with minimal maintenance or replacement.

How do Theories work with schools to build them the perfect playground?

1. Initial meeting

Online or off, we’ll listen to what you are looking to achieve, the scope of the project and the results you are wanting to get from your new play space.

We can show you our playground portfolio that demonstrate the benefits of imaginative play and highlight examples of similar projects we’ve tended to.

2. Design phase

We agree a playground design fee (fixed or flexible) and ensure that everyone is 100% clear on what’s to be achieved and how much time we have on the preliminary designs.

We then push into the design process to bring your visions to life.

3. Contract

When your playground design has been approved we’ll draw up a fixed price contract for the build.

With a detailed instruct on completion order, we’ll provide a detailed programme of work and conduct a health and safety assessment, organise the site and move to the next stage.

4. Construction

We may have to bring in external contractors for some specialist work, but don’t worry, it will be project managed and we’ll take care of everything.

Our team endeavours to make the development of natural playgrounds a wholesome and educational experience for staff and children alike – some aspects of our work can become interactive events for the children too.

5. Planting

Depending on the final planting scheme we’ll usually wait until all of the construction is completed. This helps us to better visualise the final type of planting to best suit and complement the playground and its surroundings.

6. Aftercare

Far from being just a playground design and build company, we provide a great degree of aftercare.

This can include replacing and repairing any pieces of equipment that may have become damaged due to unforeseen circumstances.

Hardwearing and long lasting, astroturf has the natural look and feel of grass, but is easier on maintenance.

What schools are saying about us and our playgrounds

“’We are thrilled with the new playground, the children love it and it does make the teachers’ work easier as the set up is so accessible and easy to maintain.

The climbing frame works really well, the children use both the upper and lower level, which is a home corner at the moment. As we are outdoors in all weathers the climbing frame not only offers shelter but it’s an exciting and relaxing place to be in. The design enables the children to lead and initiate different games in different areas rather than just run around dangerously.’”

Joanna

Ey Leader, Copenhagen Primary

“Theories have been essential in helping us realise our plan for a new and innovative adventure playground. It has proved highly successful and popular with the local children and staff alike. The play environment designed by Theories is supporting creative play activities in many different and varied ways.”

Tim Wallder

Play Director, IGC

“Theories have consistently been able to listen to our staff’s wishes as well as the needs of individual children and go on to create unique, challenging and interesting play environments where every nook and cranny counts and where every child can explore their own varied play needs safely and happily.

Theories are a one-stop professional playground solution, seamlessly integrating every aspect from helping formulate a design brief, producing design proposals and budgets, to carrying out the build contract with their own skilled staff, and finally offering on-going maintenance support.”

Head, Phoenix Primary School, E3
